AI Boom Lifts Factories Across South Korea and Taiwan as Asia Manufacturing Improves

ASIA: The global artificial-intelligence investment boom is feeding directly into Asian manufacturing, with South Korea and Taiwan recording stronger factory activity as demand for semiconductors and related products accelerates.

South Korean exports surge

South Korea’s manufacturing PMI rose to 53.9 in September, while Taiwan’s reached 56.7. A reading above 50 indicates expansion. South Korean export demand grew at its fastest pace in more than 15 years, according to survey data reported by Reuters.

Japan continued to expand, although at a slower rate, while Indonesia and Vietnam also reported growth.

Energy costs remain the counterweight

Higher oil and input prices threaten margins and consumer purchasing power. The regional outlook therefore reflects two competing forces: powerful technology demand and rising production costs.
