TikTok Reaches $100 Million Settlement With Alabama Over Teen Safety Claims

Montgomery, September 28, 2026: TikTok and Alabama have reached a settlement requiring new teen usage limits and stronger age-verification measures.

Settlement terms

Reuters reported that the agreement requires a two-hour daily time limit for teenagers in Alabama, pauses after 15 minutes of use and enhanced age checks. TikTok will pay Alabama at least $100 million under the agreement.

Broader technology debate

The settlement comes as US states continue examining social-media platforms’ responsibilities toward young users and the design of online services.
