Chinese travellers are choosing longer international holidays during the 2026 Golden Week period, with travel agencies reporting strong demand for long-haul itineraries.
According to Reuters, packages covering Europe, Central Asia, the Caucasus, Australia and other distant destinations have seen strong bookings. Hotel stays of a week or longer and multi-destination itineraries have also increased.
Value remains important
Despite strong travel demand, consumers are paying close attention to value. Mid-range accommodation is more popular than luxury properties, indicating that longer travel does not necessarily mean higher spending on every category.
The trend offers a useful window into China’s changing outbound tourism market and the strength of travel demand even while domestic consumers remain cautious in other areas.
