China and the United States have agreed to create a new communication channel for artificial intelligence risks following the latest high-level economic and trade discussions.
The two sides plan further dialogue on AI’s risks and benefits, with another discussion expected before the end of November. Reuters reported that the channel is intended to help address AI-related incidents and improve communication between the two countries.
AI becomes a diplomatic issue
Artificial intelligence is increasingly connected to economic competitiveness, national security and technology policy. The new dialogue provides a dedicated forum even as broader differences over chips, trade and strategic technology remain.
