BEIJING, September 29, 2026: China’s telecommunications industry recorded 1.16 trillion yuan in cumulative business revenue during the first eight months of 2026, down 2.2% year on year, according to data reported by China Financial News.
At the same time, the total volume of telecom services, calculated at constant prices from the previous year, increased 7.6%.
China Financial News reported the latest industry figures from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Revenue and service volume differ
The contrasting figures show that the amount of telecommunications activity can continue expanding even when reported revenue declines. Changes in pricing, service composition and competition can influence the relationship between traffic and revenue.
5G and digital infrastructure
China continues to expand 5G and computing infrastructure. The country has more than 5.15 million 5G base stations, according to recently reported official figures.
