Agra is one of the defining stops on the Maharajas’ Express Treasures of India journey. The itinerary combines the Taj Mahal with Agra Fort before the train continues toward Ranthambore.
Taj Mahal experience
The official itinerary schedules a visit to the Taj Mahal during the Agra portion of the journey. The monument, commissioned by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of Mumtaz Mahal, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Agra Fort adds historical depth
The following day includes Agra Fort, another major Mughal-era monument. Together, the two sites give travellers a concentrated introduction to Agra’s architectural history.
Luxury rail travel changes the format
Instead of treating Agra as a standalone city stop, the Maharajas’ Express incorporates sightseeing, meals, accommodation and onward travel into one organised itinerary.
Agra and the wider Golden Triangle
The route links Agra with Jaipur and Delhi, while Ranthambore adds a wildlife component. This makes the four-day circuit broader than a conventional Golden Triangle city tour.
