Recognise warning signs
A fake recruiter may promise an unusually high salary for little work, offer a job without a meaningful selection process or pressure you to act immediately. Requests for registration fees, security deposits or money to release an offer deserve caution. A polished logo or letterhead does not prove an offer is genuine.
Verify and protect information
Find the employer’s official website and contact details independently. If a recruiter claims to represent a known company, contact that company through its official website. Never share OTPs, UPI PINs, banking passwords or remote-access codes. Be cautious about sending identity documents before verifying who needs them and why.
If money or information has been shared
Contact your bank or payment provider immediately if money was transferred. Preserve transaction IDs, phone numbers, messages and screenshots. In India, report suspected cybercrime through the [National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal](https://cybercrime.gov.in/). For financial cyber fraud, helpline 1930 may help initiate a time-sensitive report; act promptly and follow official instructions.
Use trusted channels
The [National Career Service](https://www.ncs.gov.in/) portal is one starting point for career services and vacancies, but verify every listing. Our guide to [reporting online fraud](https://newsnationonline.com/india/report-online-fraud-cybercrime-india/) explains related reporting steps. Reporting does not guarantee recovery, so prevention and quick action matter.
