However, the Direct also threw a wrench into the plans of those who wish to be spoiler-free going into Fortune’s Weave, as a major story beat from early in the game was revealed in the final five minutes of the video.

We’re about to dive into that spoiler right now and its implications for how Fortune’s Weave will play out, so if you have not watched the video and wish to stay unspoiled, do not venture below the video we’ve shared below. After 18 minutes of explanations on the characters, mechanics, and world of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, the year 1449 appears on the screen–and then immediately progresses forward five years to 1454. The Dagdan Empire still stands, but it has been rendered apocalyptic after being ravaged by a demon god called Balor.

It’s then revealed that Fortune’s Weave will take place across both years, with the main protagonist, Eshmel, summoned by Sothis to help the heroes in the past prevent the calamity of the future through key moments in each hero’s story. How exactly that will play out, however, was not explained.

The Fortune’s Weave Direct introduced us to the four heroes of the Dagdan Empire–Cai, Dietrich, Leda, and Theodora–as they compete in a tradition called the Heroic Games. Players will be able to switch between each hero at will, playing out their stories in parallel if they so choose.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave will launch September 17 exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2.
