The knockout destinations for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 are confirmed: Cape Town will host the first semi-final on November 17, Tshwane the second on November 18, and the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg will stage the final on November 21.
The three matches bring the expanded 14-team tournament to its conclusion after a Super Series, two-group phase and Super 7. All three knockout games are scheduled as day matches beginning at 10am local time, and reserve days have been allocated.
World Cup 2027 knockout schedule
- November 17: Semi-final 1 — Newlands, Cape Town
- November 18: Semi-final 2 — Tshwane
- November 21: Final — Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg
- Reserve days are assigned to the knockout matches
How teams qualify for the semi-finals
The semi-finalists are not decided directly from the initial groups. Seven teams first reach the Super 7, where each plays six matches and starts with zero points. The top four at the end of that league advance to the knockouts.
The team finishing first plays fourth, while second faces third. This means the final Super 7 table determines the semi-final pairings rather than a fixed Group A versus Group B bracket.
Cape Town gets the first semi-final
Newlands has a prominent role from the start of the main tournament. India and defending champions Australia meet there on October 7 in the opening group-stage match, recreating the pairing from the 2023 final. South Africa also begin their campaign in Cape Town against New Zealand.
By November 17, Newlands will switch from group-stage showcase to knockout venue. The first-place or second-place Super 7 team assigned to that semi-final will arrive knowing one win separates it from Johannesburg.
Tshwane hosts semi-final two
Tshwane is another venue used throughout the competition before its knockout assignment. Pakistan play Afghanistan there early in the group stage, and the city also receives additional group and Super 7 fixtures. Its November 18 semi-final determines the second finalist.
The Wanderers returns as a World Cup final venue
Johannesburg’s Wanderers hosted the 2003 Men’s ODI World Cup final, when Australia beat India. Twenty-four years later, the tournament returns to Africa and the same city again stages the title match. The identity of the finalists, of course, will only be determined by results across the competition.
The ground also carries another major piece of ICC history: India beat Pakistan there in the final of the inaugural Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007. In 2027, India and Pakistan are scheduled to meet at the Wanderers during the ODI World Cup group stage on October 10.
Johannesburg will be central long before November 21
Beyond India-Pakistan, the Wanderers hosts other group-stage and Super 7 matches. That gives it a presence across the competition rather than reserving the venue only for the final. Fans following the tournament in Johannesburg could therefore see cricket from the opening group period through to the trophy match.
Why reserve days matter
Knockout matches have no second chance in the standings, so weather interruptions carry greater consequences than during league play. Allocating reserve days gives organisers additional time to complete decisive fixtures when conditions prevent a result on the scheduled day. The final has November 22 available if required.
A long route before the knockouts
Reaching Cape Town or Tshwane will require sustained performance. Most teams begin with five group games. Seven qualifiers then play six more matches each in the Super 7. A semi-finalist emerging from the group stage could therefore have played 11 matches before the knockout round.
That structure makes the 2027 edition substantially different from a short group-and-knockout event. The Super 7 is effectively a second league, and because points do not carry over from the groups, teams must establish form again after qualifying.
Three South African cities decide the trophy
Although Zimbabwe and Namibia play major hosting roles, the semi-finals and final are all in South Africa. The knockout sequence moves from Cape Town to Tshwane and then Johannesburg, concentrating the closing week in three of the country’s principal cricket centres.

The final destination
Fifty-seven matches begin in Windhoek and end at the Wanderers. Before any team can think about Johannesburg on November 21, it must survive the tournament’s layered qualification route and then win a semi-final. What is already certain is the stage: Cape Town and Tshwane will decide the finalists, and Johannesburg will decide the 2027 world champion.
