Pune: Pune Municipal Corporation has intensified action against illegal dumping of construction and demolition waste across the city, targeting a problem that contributes to dust, clogged drainage and roadside encroachment.
Surveillance and penalties
The civic drive includes surveillance, fines and legal action against violators disposing of debris outside authorised systems. Builders, contractors and property owners are being urged to use approved waste-handling channels.
Construction debris is more than a cleanliness issue. Unmanaged rubble can narrow roads, obstruct drains and increase particulate pollution when dry material is disturbed by traffic.
Consistency will be key
Long-term improvement will depend on accessible disposal facilities, tracking of large construction sites and sustained enforcement rather than occasional clean-up drives.
