Pune: A 28-year-old civil services aspirant suffered a bullet injury after a country-made pistol allegedly carried by a 16-year-old pillion rider discharged while the two were travelling through Pune, according to police.
The incident occurred near Gangadham Chowk after the aspirant reportedly offered the teenager a lift. Police said the minor was handling the firearm when it discharged, striking the rider in the lower back. The injured man was reported out of danger.
Weapon seized
Bibvewadi Police filed a suo motu complaint, served notice to the minor and seized the country-made pistol. Investigators are expected to examine how the teenager obtained the firearm.
The account is based on the police version and remains subject to investigation. The minor’s identity is not being disclosed.
Wider safety concern
Tracing the source of an illegal firearm can be crucial because supply networks may expose other young people and communities to serious risk.
