THANE: Maharashtra has reached a new construction milestone on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor with the launch of the state’s first steel bridge for the project.
100 metres long, 1,405 tonnes
The bridge spans National Highway 3 near Dive-Anjur village in Bhiwandi. It is about 100 metres long and weighs approximately 1,405 tonnes, reflecting the scale of engineering required where the high-speed corridor crosses major existing infrastructure.
Steel bridges are being used at locations where long clear spans are needed over highways, rail lines and other obstacles.
Maharashtra section moves forward
Progress in Maharashtra is especially important to the overall bullet-train timetable because construction in the state began later than in parts of Gujarat. Each major civil milestone therefore provides a clearer picture of how the corridor is advancing.
