MAHARASHTRA: The state government has declared drought conditions in 265 of Maharashtra’s 358 talukas following a weak monsoon, bringing a large part of the state under relief measures.
Relief package targets farm and rural distress
The government has announced a 12-point package covering assistance for affected farmers and measures intended to ease pressure in drought-hit areas. Implementation will be closely watched because the impact varies sharply across Marathwada, Vidarbha and other regions.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said the state will move on assistance without waiting for central funds, while crop-loss assessment and local relief work continue.
Execution is now the real test
Declarations matter only if eligible families receive assistance quickly. Drinking water, fodder, crop losses, credit recovery and employment support are likely to dominate the coming months.
