MUMBAI: Maharashtra has paused a proposed restructuring of the Agriculture Department and temporarily retained the staffing framework approved in 2009 while a comprehensive manpower review is carried out.
Vacancies and field workload to be reassessed
The Cabinet decision calls for a fresh examination of vacant posts, cadre-wise requirements, field-level needs and the workload created by farmer-focused schemes before a new proposal is submitted.
The timing is significant because the department is central to crop surveys, farmer assistance and implementation of agricultural schemes during the current drought.
Field capacity matters during crisis
Policies announced in Mumbai ultimately depend on officers and staff working at district and village level. Any restructuring therefore has to balance administrative efficiency with sufficient personnel for direct farmer services.
