Asian Games 2026 surfing: Japan’s Kanoa Igarashi and Mirai Ikeda won the men’s and women’s shortboard gold medals as surfing made its official Asian Games debut.
Igarashi won the men’s event, while 18-year-old Ikeda claimed the women’s title. Japan also earned another women’s shortboard medal through Minami Nonaka.
The surfing results carry additional significance because the Asian continental winners secured Olympic qualification places for Los Angeles 2028 under the event’s qualification system.
