CAIRO: United Nations envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg has met Houthi negotiators in Muscat as renewed fighting raises concerns about further escalation in the country’s long-running conflict.

The Associated Press reported that Grundberg met the Houthis’ chief negotiator Mohammed Abdul-Salam and also held discussions in Saudi Arabia. He said the talks were aimed at exploring ways to prevent the current escalation from becoming wider.
The renewed violence has implications for Yemen’s humanitarian situation and maritime trade through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, one of the world’s important shipping routes.
