Jalna Police Bust Chain-Snatching Gang, Solve Three Cases; Five Arrested, Property Worth ₹370,500 Seized
Four Alleged Snatchers and Receiver of Stolen Gold Held After Technical Investigation and Intelligence Inputs
JALNA, Maharashtra: In a major breakthrough against street crime, the Jalna Local Crime Branch (LCB) has dismantled a gang allegedly involved in a series of chain-snatching incidents targeting women across the city. Police arrested four alleged chain snatchers and one person accused of purchasing the stolen gold, while recovering property worth ₹370,500, including a gold chain, two motorcycles, premium smartphones, and other articles used during the crimes.
According to police, the operation successfully solved three separate chain-snatching cases that had created concern among residents in recent days. Investigators relied on technical evidence, CCTV footage, mobile surveillance, and confidential intelligence to identify the suspects.
Three Incidents Solved
The first incident occurred on July 1, 2026, at around 4:30 p.m. near Kshirsagar Hospital on Badi Sadak in Jalna. Shankutala Shivkumar Rathi (65), a resident near Laxmi Narayan Oil Mill, allegedly had a gold chain weighing approximately 1.5 tolas snatched by two motorcycle-borne assailants. A case was registered at Sadar Bazar Police Station.
Earlier the same day, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Sangeeta Gopikishan Lohia (58) of Manik Nagar was reportedly riding her scooter near Vansh Blue Bells Society in Sambhajinagar, Jalna, when two motorcycle riders allegedly attempted to snatch the gold chain from her neck. Another case was subsequently registered at Sadar Bazar Police Station.
The third incident took place on June 29, 2026, at around 5:00 p.m., when Usha Sharad Adane (39), a resident of Mahasul Colony on Ambad Road, allegedly lost a gold chain weighing around 1.5 tolas in a similar motorcycle-borne snatching. The case was registered at Taluka Police Station.
Technical Investigation Led to Breakthrough
Taking the repeated incidents seriously, Police Inspector Pankaj Jadhav of the Local Crime Branch formed a special investigation team. The team examined CCTV footage, technical evidence, mobile location data, and information received from confidential informants.
The investigation allegedly revealed the involvement of Sumit Subhash Rupekar, Chaitanya Kailas Gaikwad, Shubham Vasant Vaidya, and Ajay Rohidas Gangurde in all three incidents. Following their detention and interrogation, police said all three cases were solved.
During questioning, investigators also learned that the stolen gold had allegedly been sold to Ajay Arun Lolge, who was subsequently arrested.
Arrested Accused
- Sumit Subhash Rupekar (21), Sajapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar District.
- Chaitanya Kailas Gaikwad (22), Sajapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar District.
- Shubham Vasant Vaidya (23), Sajapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar District.
- Ajay Rohidas Gangurde (26), Rajangaon, Gangapur Taluka, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar District.
- Ajay Arun Lolge (28), artisan, E-21/8, Sambhaji Colony, N-6 CIDCO, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Seized Property Worth ₹370,500
Police recovered the following items from the accused:
- One 7-gram gold chain valued at ₹75,000
- Bajaj Pulsar 220 and Bajaj Pulsar 125 motorcycles worth ₹205,000
- An iPhone 14 Pro and a Redmi Note 13 smartphone valued at ₹90,000
- A bag, helmet, number plate, and face mask worth ₹500
Total value of seized property: ₹370,500.
Senior Officers Supervised the Operation
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Teghbir Singh Sandhu, Additional Superintendent of Police Vikram Sali, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Anant Kulkarni.
The investigation was led by Police Inspector Pankaj Jadhav of the Local Crime Branch with the assistance of Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Khamgal, Police Sub-Inspector Rajendra Wagh, and police personnel Gopal Goshik, Ramesh Rathod, Prabhakar Wagh, Laxmikant Adep, Sagar Bawiskar, Datta Waghunde, Irshad Patel, Sandeep Chinchole, Shivprasad Ekhande, Satish Shrivas, Ramesh Kale, Dheeraj Bhosale, Yogesh Sahane, Kailash Cheke, Sopan Kshirsagar, and Ashok Jadhav.
Police stated that ensuring the safety of women remains a top priority and that similar operations against chain-snatching and other street crimes will continue across Jalna.
