Japan Markets: Yen Gains After Trump Raises Concern Over Currency Weakness

Tokyo: The Japanese yen strengthened after US President Donald Trump raised concerns about yen weakness during discussions with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

Reuters reported that the dollar fell against the yen after Japan’s finance minister said the currency issue had been raised. Japan’s 10-year government bond yield also touched 3.115%, its highest level since 1996. citeturn0search0

Currency Markets

Movements in the yen are closely watched because Japan is a major trading economy and changes in the currency can affect exporters, importers and inflation.

Bond Market Pressure

Japan’s rising bond yields are part of a wider global increase in long-term borrowing costs.
