BEIJING, September 29, 2026: China has retained the top position in the gold-medal tally at the 48th WorldSkills Competition, according to China’s government information service.
The WorldSkills Competition brings together young skilled professionals from countries and regions around the world to compete in technical and vocational disciplines.
Focus on vocational skills
Competitions cover areas including manufacturing, digital technology, construction, hospitality and creative skills. Results provide an international showcase for vocational education and technical training.
Skills and industry
China has been increasing emphasis on vocational education as manufacturing becomes more technology-intensive. Advanced production requires technicians with skills in automation, digital systems and precision manufacturing.
This focus is also relevant to China’s expanding AI, semiconductor and advanced-manufacturing industries.
International competition
The WorldSkills event provides an opportunity for participating countries to compare training systems and highlight young professionals’ technical capabilities.
