BEIJING, September 29, 2026: China is observing Martyrs’ Day with national ceremonies honoring people recognized by the state as having sacrificed their lives for the country.
President Xi Jinping and other senior Chinese officials are scheduled to pay tribute to national heroes and martyrs as part of the annual observance on September 30.
The event was listed among the latest official developments by the State Council of China.
Annual national observance
Martyrs’ Day is observed each year ahead of China’s National Day on October 1. Ceremonies typically include wreath-laying events and commemorations at the Monument to the People’s Heroes in Beijing.
Historical remembrance
The observance is intended to remember people who died in revolutionary, national-defense and other causes recognized under China’s official commemorative framework.
National Day period
The commemoration takes place immediately before the National Day holiday period, when China also sees increased domestic travel and public events.
