GTA VI Takes Over Netflix With 31.1 Million Views in Four Days

Grand Theft Auto VI has turned into an unlikely Netflix blockbuster. Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, a 27-minute presentation built entirely from in-game PlayStation 5 footage, drew 31.1 million views during Netflix’s Aug. 24–30 tracking week and finished at No. 1 on the streamer’s global English-language film chart.

Netflix’s official Top 10 report says the GTA VI special ranked No. 1 in 87 of the 93 countries tracked globally. It also outperformed the No. 2 English-language film, The Whisper Man, which recorded 23.2 million views for the same week.

A Video Game Preview Became Netflix’s Biggest Title

The result is notable because An Extended Look is not a conventional movie or television series. It is a long-form preview of one of the world’s most anticipated video games. Netflix premiered the presentation on Aug. 27, giving subscribers an exclusive six-hour window before the footage became available elsewhere.
