NEW DELHI, October 2, 2026: A 22-year-old woman from Assam died after the Uber bike taxi on which she was travelling was allegedly hit by a Delhi Transport Corporation bus near the Ashram flyover, according to police and reporting from Delhi.

The victim, identified as Hrishita Lahon, was an English literature graduate from Assam. The bike rider was also seriously affected by the crash, according to the report.

The Indian Express reported that the accident occurred when the rider had accepted a bike-taxi journey. The crash has raised questions about safety for two-wheeler taxi passengers and the interaction between buses and motorcycles on busy Delhi roads. citeturn0search1

What is known about the crash

The motorcycle was travelling near Ashram flyover when the alleged collision with the DTC bus occurred. Police are examining the circumstances and the movements of both vehicles.

Accident investigations need to establish lane positions, speed, road conditions and driver actions. An allegation in an initial complaint is not the same as a final finding of responsibility.

Risks for two-wheeler passengers

Passengers on motorcycles have less physical protection than passengers inside buses or cars. A collision with a large vehicle can cause severe injuries even at speeds that might appear moderate.

Helmets are essential for both riders and passengers. Passengers should also use properly fitted protective equipment and choose services that follow applicable transport rules.

Challenges on busy urban roads

Delhi’s major roads carry buses, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians and commercial vehicles at the same time. Differences in vehicle size and acceleration can create complex situations at intersections and merges.

Drivers of heavy vehicles need particular awareness of motorcycles because they can disappear from blind spots. Two-wheeler riders should avoid staying alongside large vehicles for long periods.

Why CCTV and witness accounts matter

Traffic cameras and nearby security cameras can provide evidence about the sequence of events. Investigators may compare footage with witness accounts, vehicle damage and other evidence.

Where responsibility is disputed, objective evidence can help establish what happened. Police may also inspect the vehicles involved.

Safety for bike-taxi users

Passengers using bike taxis should wear helmets and follow the operator’s safety instructions. They should avoid distracting the rider and should not encourage unsafe speed or manoeuvres.

Operators and platforms also have responsibilities under applicable regulations concerning driver eligibility and vehicle safety.

Impact on the family

The death of a young person far from her home can create difficult circumstances for the family. Police and authorities coordinate identification, documentation and other formalities following a fatal accident.

What happens next

Authorities will continue investigating the collision and determine whether any offence or traffic violation occurred. The final findings will depend on evidence.

Delhi bike-taxi crash investigation

The fatal Ashram flyover collision is being examined by police to establish how the DTC bus and motorcycle came into contact. Investigators can examine CCTV, traffic-camera footage, vehicle damage, witness accounts and the positions of both vehicles. The initial allegation against a driver should be distinguished from any eventual court finding.

Two-wheeler passengers have less physical protection than bus or car occupants. Helmets, safe speeds and careful positioning around large vehicles are important. Motorcycles should avoid remaining in heavy vehicles’ blind spots, while bus drivers need particular awareness of smaller vehicles operating nearby.

Urban traffic and passenger safety

Busy Delhi roads combine buses, cars, motorcycles, pedestrians and commercial traffic. Safe road use depends on lane discipline, appropriate speed and attention at merges and intersections. Transport operators and platforms also have responsibilities under applicable rules governing driver and vehicle safety.

What happens next

Police will continue collecting evidence and determining the circumstances of the crash. The victim’s family will complete the necessary identification and legal formalities. NewsNationOnline will report verified developments as the investigation progresses.
