MANASSAS, VIRGINIA — Two employees were killed and another injured after a shooting at an equipment-rental business in northern Virginia on September 30, according to police. The suspect later died by suicide during a standoff on Interstate 81.
What police reported
Manassas police said Marvin Grant, 37, opened fire on three co-workers during an altercation. Richard Lamont, 48, and Christopher Serrano, 33, died. A third worker was taken to hospital and was reported in stable condition.
Suspect tracked after shooting
Police said Grant fled in a vehicle after the shooting. Investigators used cellphone information to locate him in the Harrisonburg area. He eventually stopped on Interstate 81 in Augusta County.

During the standoff, Grant fatally shot himself, according to Virginia State Police. Authorities said police did not use force during the incident.
Motive remains unclear
Investigators had not established why the workplace confrontation escalated into gunfire. Police are expected to examine the relationship between the suspect and victims, workplace records and witness accounts.
Workplace violence concerns
Workplace violence can involve threats, physical confrontations or firearms. Employers often use reporting systems, security procedures and employee-support programmes to identify warning signs and reduce risk.
Impact on colleagues
Workplace shootings can leave employees and families dealing with trauma, bereavement and uncertainty. Employers commonly close affected locations temporarily while police investigate.
What happens next
Authorities will continue documenting the crime scene and completing the investigation. Because the suspect is dead, investigators will focus on understanding the circumstances and establishing a reliable account of events.
