Cameroon Authorises $391 Million World Bank Loan for Development Financing

YAOUNDE: Cameroon has authorised a €347.5 million loan agreement, worth roughly $391 million, with the World Bank’s International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Financing enters development agenda

President Paul Biya authorised the agreement as Cameroon seeks financing for development priorities while managing wider fiscal pressures.

Large multilateral loans can provide governments with longer-term financing than commercial markets, although their impact depends on how funds are allocated and projects are implemented.

Debt sustainability remains important

Across Africa, governments are balancing infrastructure and social-development needs against debt-service costs. Transparent use of borrowed funds and measurable project outcomes are therefore critical.
