Asian Games 2026 weightlifting: Iraq’s Ali Ammar produced one of the most dramatic moments of the competition by setting a world record in the men’s snatch before finishing with silver.

Ammar lifted 219kg in the snatch and appeared on course for gold. However, he missed his final clean-and-jerk attempt after a timing-related confusion, leaving him with a 465kg total.

Iran’s Ali Davoudi won gold with 466kg, just one kilogram ahead of Ammar. The result demonstrated how a single successful attempt can change the final medal order in weightlifting.
