Argentina Launches South America’s First Citizenship-by-Investment Programme

BUENOS AIRES: Argentina has announced plans to launch what the government describes as South America’s first citizenship-by-investment programme.

Government targets foreign capital

Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced the initiative as President Javier Milei’s administration seeks to attract investment and expand foreign-capital inflows.

Citizenship-by-investment programmes generally grant nationality to applicants who meet specified investment and due-diligence requirements. Details of Argentina’s qualifying investments and implementation rules will determine the programme’s practical reach.

Programme could attract global attention

Similar schemes operate in several countries but can generate debate about transparency, security screening and whether citizenship should be linked to financial investment.
