A smart factory in Shenzhen is producing modular building units at roughly 20-minute intervals, highlighting the role of automation and digital manufacturing in China’s construction industry.

Xinhua reported on the facility as part of its coverage of China’s smart manufacturing sector.

Automation moves into construction

Modular construction allows components to be manufactured under controlled factory conditions before being transported to construction sites. Automation can improve consistency, shorten production cycles and reduce manual work in repetitive tasks.

The Shenzhen example illustrates how China’s manufacturing expertise is increasingly being applied beyond traditional electronics and machinery into construction and infrastructure.
