Serbia’s geography ranges from the flat plains of Vojvodina to mountain landscapes in the west, east and south. Historical and cultural regions are useful for understanding travel routes, although they do not always match modern administrative boundaries.
Belgrade
The capital is Serbia’s main urban centre and a convenient starting point for national travel.
Vojvodina
Northern Serbia is known for flat landscapes, multicultural heritage, vineyards, towns such as Novi Sad and the Danube.
Šumadija
Central Serbia includes rolling hills, orchards, historic sites and the city of Kragujevac.
Western Serbia
Western areas offer mountains, rivers, villages and national parks, including Tara and the Zlatibor region.
Eastern Serbia
Eastern Serbia includes the Danube Gorge, Đerdap National Park, Roman heritage and distinctive natural landscapes.
Southern Serbia
The south includes Niš and surrounding areas with Roman, Ottoman and modern Serbian history.
Plan by Region
First-time visitors can combine Belgrade and Vojvodina with western or central Serbia. Longer trips can continue toward Niš and eastern Serbia.
