Oman Regions Explained: Muscat, Dhofar, Al Dakhiliyah, Musandam and More

Oman is divided into 11 governorates, with significant differences in geography, climate and heritage.

Muscat

The capital region combines the coast, historic forts, museums and modern cultural institutions.

Dhofar

Dhofar in southern Oman is known for Salalah, frankincense heritage and the seasonal Khareef landscape.

Al Dakhiliyah

Nizwa, Bahla and Jabrin are major heritage destinations in the interior.

Musandam

Musandam is known for dramatic coastal mountains and the Strait of Hormuz.

Al Sharqiyah

Eastern regions include desert landscapes, wadis, coastal towns and Ras Al Jinz.
