Malta has a remarkable concentration of historic monuments for its size. UNESCO currently lists three World Heritage properties: Valletta, Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum and the Megalithic Temples of Malta.
City of Valletta
Valletta contains a dense collection of churches, palaces, museums and fortifications within its historic walls.
Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum
The underground prehistoric complex is a unique archaeological site and one of Malta’s UNESCO properties.
Megalithic Temples
The UNESCO property includes Ġgantija, Ħaġar Qim, Mnajdra, Ta’ Ħaġrat, Skorba and Tarxien temple complexes.
Mdina
The old fortified city sits on elevated ground and is known for its historic streets and architecture.
Three Cities
Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua preserve harbour fortifications and historic buildings.
Gozo’s Cittadella
The Cittadella dominates Victoria and offers views over Gozo.
