China Sets 2030 Goal for Intelligent Connected New Energy Vehicles

BEIJING, September 29, 2026: China has announced a 2026–2030 development plan for intelligent connected new energy vehicles, with a goal of strengthening capabilities across the industry’s full supply chain by 2030.

The plan, reported by China’s government information service, covers intelligent connected new energy vehicles and their supporting industrial ecosystem.

China Government reported that the plan aims to consolidate China’s advantages across the intelligent-connected new-energy-vehicle industrial chain and support the country’s position among leading global automobile manufacturing powers.

Focus on connected vehicle technology

Intelligent connected vehicles combine electric powertrains with software, sensors, communications and automated-driving technologies. Their development depends on cooperation between automakers, battery producers, chip companies, software developers and telecommunications providers.

China’s battery sector is also undergoing a new five-year development plan through 2030. Read NewsNationOnline’s report on the advanced-battery plan.

Industry-wide approach

The 2026–2030 vehicle plan reflects an industry-wide approach rather than focusing only on vehicle production. Supply chains, intelligent systems and supporting technologies are central to the strategy.

The plan comes as competition among automakers intensifies in electric vehicles, connected-car software and battery technologies.

Global implications

China is already a major producer and exporter of electric vehicles. The new plan signals continued policy attention to integrating electric mobility with digital and intelligent vehicle technologies through the end of the decade.
