Belgium is divided into three regions: the Flemish Region, the Walloon Region and the Brussels-Capital Region. For travelers, these areas offer different languages, landscapes, cities and cultural experiences.
Flanders
Flanders is in the northern part of Belgium and includes cities such as Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp, Leuven and Mechelen. Dutch is the principal official language of the region.
Wallonia
Wallonia covers much of southern Belgium and includes cities such as Namur, Liège, Mons and Dinant. French is the main official language, while German is official in a small eastern area.
Brussels-Capital Region
Brussels is a bilingual French-Dutch region and includes Belgium’s capital city. It is a major center for culture, museums, architecture and international institutions.
Coast and Ardennes
Belgium’s North Sea coast offers seaside destinations, while the Ardennes in the south provide forests, valleys and outdoor activities.
