Old City: Icherisheher
The Walled City of Baku, including the Shirvanshah’s Palace and Maiden Tower, is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Allow several hours to explore its lanes, monuments and museums.
Modern Baku
The Flame Towers, Heydar Aliyev Centre and waterfront districts show another side of the city. Baku Boulevard is especially useful for a relaxed walk beside the Caspian Sea.
Food in Baku
Look for Azerbaijani classics such as plov, dolma, qutab, kebabs and tea. The city also has international restaurants and contemporary cafés.
Getting Around
Baku has a metro, buses and taxis. Walking works well in central sightseeing areas, while organized tours can simplify day trips outside the city.
Day Trips
Gobustan, mud volcano areas and the Absheron Peninsula can be considered as excursions. For a wider itinerary, pair Baku with Sheki and northern mountain destinations.
